Green Season in Bali

Most people think the rainy season is the worst time to visit Bali – but for those who know, it’s the best. During these months, villas, hotels, scooters and long-stay rentals are often 40–60% cheaper, with easy upgrades and way more availability.

For surfers, this season is pure gold. Lineups are quiet and uncrowded – instead of 20–60 people in the water, you often share waves with just a few, sometimes no one at all. On Bali’s west coast (Canggu, Uluwatu, Bingin, Balangan, Padang), mornings are usually glassy with light offshore winds, creating cleaner, longer and more powerful waves.

Culturally, this time is also the most beautiful. Galungan and Kuningan fill the island with bamboo arches, ceremonies and offerings, while Nyepi, the Day of Silence, shuts the entire island down for 24 hours – no flights, no traffic, no lights. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

And the rain? Mostly short, warm tropical showers. Everything stays green and fresh, and sunsets are often even more dramatic.

In short: Bali in the rainy season is cheaper, quieter, greener, more authentic – and better for surfing than any other time of year.
